Suffolk County Council and energy firm Bio Capital have joined forces to revolutionize the processing of food waste in the region. The agreement entails the construction of a cutting-edge anaerobic digestion plant in Reydon, near Southwold, where food waste will be efficiently converted into renewable energy.
This state-of-the-art facility, set to replace Adnams’ old plant, marks a significant milestone in Suffolk’s journey towards sustainable waste management. With the prospect of weekly kerbside collections commencing next year, Suffolk is poised to emerge as a trailblazer in the renewable energy sector. The council estimates that approximately 31,000 tonnes of household food waste will be diverted to this innovative plant annually, signaling a major step towards a greener and more eco-friendly future for the county.
