Hong Kong’s Vital Role in Connecting US-China AI Talent Flow

A recent report has revealed that more than half of the world’s artificial intelligence talent originates from the US and China. Hong Kong’s position as a ‘superconnector’ between these two major players has been emphasized in the findings. The International Finance Forum Global Artificial Intelligence Competitiveness Index Report identified Tsinghua University and Peking University as the top producers of global AI talent.

King Lun Au, executive director of the Hong Kong Financial Services Development Council, highlighted Hong Kong’s unique status in bridging mainland China with the global community, making it an ideal location for launching such reports. The Greater Bay Area initiative has addressed key infrastructure challenges faced by Hong Kong, including limited land supply and talent pool constraints, positioning the region as an international hub with access to a diverse talent pool. Hong Kong’s strategic advantages as a ‘superconnector’ and proximity to talent sources in mainland China contribute significantly to its role in facilitating the flow of AI talent between the US and China.
