Disney recently treated its fans to an exclusive glimpse of the upcoming major additions at Walt Disney World during the Play & Preview showcase. Imagineers showcased new shows, reimagined rides, and interactive experiences slated to debut over the coming year, generating much anticipation and excitement among Disney enthusiasts worldwide.
The event commenced with previews of enhancements to EPCOT’s Test Track and new shows at Hollywood Studios, setting the stage for a deep dive into the future attractions at the parks. One of the highlights was the reveal of a reimagined roller coaster inspired by the Muppets, promising a unique and thrilling experience for visitors. Animal Kingdom also stole the spotlight with the announcement of ‘Zootopia: Better Together,’ a 3D theater experience housed within the iconic Tree of Life, scheduled to welcome guests from November 7, 2025.
Senior creative director Danny Handke shared insights into the storyline of ‘Zootopia: Better Together,’ which revolves around a grand celebration called “Together Day.” Guests will don special “carrot vision” 3D glasses and embark on a journey through diverse biomes, including a mesmerizing predator-prey ice ballet, a captivating marshland water pageant, and an enchanting performance in Little Rodentia. The immersive experience culminates in Sahara Square, where attendees can enjoy a live concert featuring the beloved character Gazelle.
Moreover, the attraction will introduce a new host character, Heidi Howler the wolf, along with a fresh musical number titled ‘We Are Zunited.’ Popular characters like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde will make appearances in the show as well as at a designated meet-and-greet area named the Together Day Gathering Spot, enhancing the overall interactive experience for visitors.
In another exciting development, Magic Kingdom is gearing up to launch an enhanced version of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, complete with handheld blasters, revamped ride vehicles, and real-time scoring. The updated attraction will feature glowing targets and new gameplay modes to offer guests a more engaging and immersive ride experience. Additionally, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Frontierland is undergoing a makeover, with an updated narrative incorporating new effects such as a bat-filled cave, rainbow caverns, and a dramatic thunderstorm that transforms the interior of the mountain.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios is bracing for two significant additions: ‘The Magic of Disney Animation,’ an immersive area inspired by ‘Once Upon a Studio,’ where visitors can explore animation-themed spaces, partake in hands-on activities, and enjoy an indoor play zone, and a revamped ‘Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’ themed around ‘The Muppets.’ The Electric Mayhem will take over the ride, featuring a psychedelic guitar marquee and elements paying homage to the band’s distinctive style.
Star Wars aficionados received exciting news about ‘Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run,’ which will introduce a new mission involving Mandalorian and Grogu. Guests will assist in tracking a bounty across the galaxy, with engineers playing a pivotal role in guiding the mission to success. The showcase concluded with a surprise appearance by Captain Jack Sparrow, hinting at a forthcoming pirate-themed experience called the “Beacon Barrel,” set to debut soon at Magic Kingdom.
