Telanganas Initiative for Green Energy Equipment Manufacturing Zones

Telangana’s government is embarking on establishing specialized Green Energy Equipment Zones to attract global investments, with prominent firms like Toshiba being invited to participate in sectors such as batteries, power components, and smart grids. This initiative, highlighted by Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu, was announced during the inauguration of a CRGO Core Processing Centre and a Surge Arrester Line at the Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) facility in Rudraram, near Hyderabad. The Minister also laid the groundwork for the expansion of TTDI’s power transformer manufacturing line, with investments totaling ₹347 crore by the company.

With projections from the Economic Survey (2024–25) indicating a doubling of India’s domestic electricity demand by 2040, Telangana is proactively positioning itself to accommodate this surge through its Clean and Green Energy Policy – 2025. The state has already attracted investments amounting to ₹29,000 crore in the clean energy sector and aims to scale up renewable energy capacity to 20,000 MW by 2030. Additionally, a new research and development hub for smart energy solutions, a collaboration between Toshiba and the Telangana government, is set to further enhance the state’s appeal for investments in clean technology, semi-conductors, robotics, and advanced manufacturing.

The substantial investment commitment of ₹562 crore by TTDI, as part of an MoU signed with the Telangana government, underscores the company’s dedication to establishing India as a key manufacturing and export base for its transmission and distribution business. The proposed investment is anticipated to create over 250 direct job opportunities in the region over the next three years, aligning with the objectives of socio-economic development. The expansion projects at TTDI, including the CRGO Core Processing Centre, Surge Arrester Production Line, and EHV Power Transformer expansion, are aimed at boosting the company’s production capacity and supporting the increasing demand both domestically and globally.

The envisioned growth and investments in the green energy equipment manufacturing sector in Telangana not only signal a positive trajectory for the state’s industrial landscape but also emphasize the significance of sustainable practices and technological advancements in meeting the rising energy demands. The collaborative efforts between the government and global industry players like Toshiba are instrumental in driving innovation, creating employment opportunities, and fostering economic progress. Telangana’s strategic focus on developing dedicated zones for green energy equipment manufacturing is a testament to its commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.
