Brazil Sport Ministry and SIGA Form Strategic Alliance

In a world where the integrity of sports is constantly under threat from illicit activities such as match-fixing and illegal betting, a groundbreaking alliance has been formed to tackle this menace head-on. The Brazilian Ministry of Sport has joined forces with the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) Latin America to set a new standard for the protection of sports integrity. This significant collaboration will serve as a beacon to other nations, highlighting the importance of prioritizing integrity within sports governance.

Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, Chairman and CEO of SIGA Latin America and Global CEO of SIGA, emphasized the critical nature of this partnership. “Integrity is not optional – it is a necessity for sport to thrive,” he declared, reinforcing the alliance’s commitment to creating a resilient, credible and transparent ecosystem for sustainable sports development.

This partnership is not just about reinforcing the rules of the game; it’s about instilling a new culture of integrity within the sports industry. The mission is clear: to prevent and combat match-fixing and other harmful practices that undermine the credibility of sports. By sharing expertise and fostering transparency, this alliance is poised to empower Brazilian authorities and sports stakeholders, creating a robust framework to shield the integrity of sporting events from any illicit activities.

In October 2024, SIGA Latin America entered into a landmark agreement with the Brazilian Ministry of Finance, represented by the Department of Prizes and Betting. This initiative aims to enhance information sharing, monitor betting systems, and identify suspicious activities. Furthermore, on 26 March 2025, SIGA formalized a high-level agreement with Brazil’s Office of the Comptroller General (CGU) to align strategic efforts for corporate transparency and anti-corruption in Sport. These coordinated efforts place SIGA at the heart of Brazil’s national integrity agenda.

The partnership is set to promote technical capacity-building through joint workshops and training, exchange of information related to sports betting manipulation, and support the adoption and implementation of SIGA’s Universal Standards on Sport Integrity. Furthermore, it will encourage the promotion of collaborative governance frameworks, both nationally and internationally.

The significance of this alliance extends beyond Brazil’s borders. It serves as a potent symbol for other countries grappling with similar issues of sports integrity. The effort underscores the urgent need to keep pace with shifting trends in illicit activities that threaten to destabilize the sports industry. It also serves as a testament to the power of strategic alliances in shaping a more transparent, resilient, and credible sports landscape.

In an era of increasing complexity and challenges, the alliance between the Brazilian Ministry of Sport and SIGA represents a steadfast refusal to let the integrity of sports be compromised. As the sports industry evolves, such partnerships will be crucial in ensuring the values of fair play and integrity remain at the heart of the game.
